Art in Healing Spaces

A couple years ago I began to realize, in new ways, the potential for soothing or creatively galvanizing visuals to assist in healing work. Researchers from California University in Berkeley showed that beautiful nature and art boost the immune system. Leaders in the medical field, like Johns Hopkins Hospital, now devote considerable resources to creating a healing environment. So far, my pieces have made it into three different spaces in three different states. See below. The first piece on the left with the green walls is a holistic allergist's office in Santa Barbara, CA. The center image shows my painting in a trauma center in Denver, CO. The third night sky painting is in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

My hope and plan is to offer clients and buyers an opportunity to be part of this process. I believe that having beautiful works on display can elicit creative, life affirming thoughts that are helpful to the healing process. I am figuring out how to formalize this kind of placement. The goal is that with the purchase of select original artworks, a print reproduction of the same piece would be donated (with an acknowledgment to the purchaser) to a space where it will have the ability to serve. If you're interested in learning more, please contact me.
